Methods & Sampling

Dataset acquisition description

Protocol basics:
Digested in 4 ml of 0.2N NaOH for 2 hours at ~95degC
After digestion, tubes sat in ice bath for 5 minutes
1 ml of 1N HCl added to neutralize
Filter pelletized (at bottom of tube), and all tubes centrifuged at 1000xg for 15 minutes.
3 ml (of 5 ml total) drawn for Si(OH)4 analysis
Si(OH)4 measured by colorimetric method (Strickland and Parsens)
Absorbances were measured at 810 nm, corrected for: filter blank absorbance, reagent blank absorbance (i.e. reagents used in Si(OH)4 analysis)
