Experimental oxygen consumption data for two iron oxidizing bacteria with pyrrhotite as iron source from April to December 2018
Abstract:
Previous experiments in this dataset have incubated FeOB with zero-valent iron as an iron source. Zero-valent iron is relatively rare in natural environments, however. Mariprofundus ferrooxydans PV-1 and Ghiorsea bivora TAG-1 were therefore grown on pyrrhotite powder at 20°C to examine how they affect oxidation rates of natural iron minerals. Oxygen was measured as a proxy for iron oxidation. M. ferrooxydans PV-1 decreased net iron oxidation rates, while G. bivora TAG-1 increased net iron oxidation rates.
